Mariota won every Heisman region. Melvin Gordon was second in every region and Amari Cooper was third in every region, EXCEPT for the South, where Cooper was second and Gordon was third.

 

Gordon's 1,250 points was the most points by a running back since Toby Gerhart scored 1,276 points while finishing second to Mark Ingram in 2009.

 

Cooper's total of 1,023 points was the most by a third-place finisher since Colt McCoy had 1,145 points in 2009. It was the most by a receiver since Larry Fitzgerald had 1,552 points in 2003.

 

Mariota is the first Oregon Duck to win the Heisman Trophy.

 

He is the first Heisman winner born in Hawaii.

 

He's the first Heisman winner to play for a team in the Pacific Northwest since Terry Baker won it for Oregon State in 1962.

 

He's the first junior to win the trophy since Robert Griffin III in 2011.

 

Mariota is tied with Sam Bradford of Oklahoma for most touchdowns produced by a Heisman winner (53).

 

He's the first Pac-12 player from a school other than USC to win a Heisman since Jim Plunkett won it for Stanford in 1970.

 

He's the fifth-consecutive quarterback to win the Heisman and 13th in the last 14 seasons.

 

His 4,452 yards of total offense places him sixth on the all-time Heisman total offense chart.

 

His 3,783 passing yards puts him seventh on the all-time Heisman passing yardage chart.

He's the first Heisman winner from St. Louis High in Honolulu.
